Abstract Preservation of the intercostobrachial nerves during radical mastectomy for cancer of the breast was found to be rewarding. Of 46 mastectomies, 13 so treated were free of throbbing and paraesthesia sensations, while the other 33 had mild to severe complaint. The operative technique is described.
