While 56 patients received radiation, 41 underwent radical prostatectomy. With time to first evidence of treatment failure used as the end point for determination of treatment efficacy, radical prostatectomy was shown to be more effective than megavoltage radiation in establishing disease control. © 1982 by The American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByKlotz L and Evans C (2018) Surgery Provides Better Oncologic Outcomes than Radiation for the Treatment of Prostate CancerJournal of Urology, VOL. 196, NO. 2, (309-311), Online publication date: 1-Aug-2016.Rogers C, Alder S, Rogers R, Hopkins S, Platt M, Childs L, Crouch R, Hansen R and Hayes J (2018) High Dose Brachytherapy as Monotherapy for Intermediate Risk Prostate CancerJournal of Urology, VOL. 187, NO. 1, (109-116), Online publication date: 1-Jan-2012.Kibel A, Ciezki J, Klein E, Reddy C, Lubahn J, Haslag-Minoff J, Deasy J, Michalski J, Kallogjeri D, Piccirillo J, Rabah D, Yu C, Kattan M and Stephenson A (2018) Survival Among Men With Clinically Localized Prostate Cancer Treated With Radical Prostatectomy or Radiation Therapy in the Prostate Specific Antigen EraJournal of Urology, VOL. 187, NO. 4, (1259-1265), Online publication date: 1-Apr-2012.Walsh P and Donker P (2018) Impotence following radical prostatectomy: Insight into etiology and preventionJournal of Urology, VOL. 167, NO. 2 Part 2, (1005-1010), Online publication date: 1-Feb-2002.Freeman J, Esrig D, Grossfeld G, Stein J, Su-Chiu C, Young L, Taylor C, Skinner D, Lieskovsky G and Cote R (2018) Incidence of Occult Lymph Node Metastases in Pathological Stage C (pT3NO) Prostate CancerJournal of Urology, VOL. 154, NO. 2, (474-478), Online publication date: 1-Aug-1995.Zietman A, Shipley W and Coen J (2018) Radical Prostatectomy and Radical Radiation Therapy for Clinical Stages T1 to 2 Adenocarcinoma of the Prostate: New Insights into Outcome from Repeat Biopsy and Prostate Specific Antigen FollowupJournal of Urology, VOL. 152, NO. 5 Part 2, (1806-1812), Online publication date: 1-Nov-1994.Corral D and Bahnson R (2018) Survival of Men with Clinically Localized Prostate Cancer Detected in the Eighth Decade of LifeJournal of Urology, VOL. 151, NO. 5, (1326-1329), Online publication date: 1-May-1994.Parra R, Boullier J, Rauscher J and Cummings J (2018) The Value of Laparoscopic Lymphadenectomy in Conjunction with Radical Perineal or Retropubic ProstatectomyJournal of Urology, VOL. 151, NO. 6, (1599-1602), Online publication date: 1-Jun-1994.
