Black hole binary systems with a small mass ratio, can be treated in general relativity via a systematic expansion in the mass ratio around the test-particle geodesic limit of the smaller-mass black hole. Using this so-called ``self-force'' method, the metric and other quantities can be reconstructed. In this paper, the author computes, for the first time, the first-order self-force correction for generic bound orbits around a Kerr black hole.
