Abstract Both qualitative and quantitative paradigms have contributed much to evaluations. Both, however, are works‐in‐progress with many issues still unresolved and assumptions incompletely tested. Further, both are more similar in practice than might be expected from the sometimes strident disputes—all grounds for peaceful coexistence and for going beyond to a new perspective.
