Following Conger's (1974) revised definition of suppressor variables, the universe of possible relationships among two predictors and a common criterion is analyzed. A simple mapping of the possible relationships, based on the correlation between the two predictors and the ratio of their validities, is provided. The relation between suppressor as defined by Conger (1974) and part correlation, is discussed in the second part of this paper.
