An assessment of the current level of development of the Russian political nation requires consideration of the national project, which is generally recognized as successful, for further comparison with the Russian national project. The political nation is the most important subject of politics. Practice shows us that, not least, the process of forming national identity is greatly influenced by the state, as well as the country's political elites. They are the important subjects that can lead a certain society of people to realize themselves as a separate nation, based on the common language, culture, faith, economic and military activities, ideas, etc. Successful national projects such as French show us that a common ethno-cultural origin is far from the most important thing in the formation of national identity. A considerable number of countries in the world have a large number of ethnic groups, including the Russian Federation. France and partly the Soviet Union have shown us that in such circumstances, the most appropriate solution for the state is to take a course towards the formation of a civil, supra-ethnic political nation. The consolidation of different ethnic groups of the population of one country into a single nation on the basis of any unifying factors ensures the long and stable development of the state.
