Financial technology, commonly referred to as fintech, has transformed financial services, marking the beginning of a new era characterised by innovation, disruption, and change. Fintech incorporates technology into financial offerings to enhance efficiency and customer experience, covering domains such as cryptocurrency exchanges, digital payments, robo-advisors, peer-to-peer lending, and online/mobile banking, all supported by blockchain technology. This research investigates the factors driving the fintech revolution, evaluating technological progress, its disruptive effects on traditional financial institutions, and the wider implications for the financial services sector. Through an extensive literature review and comprehensive case studies, we provide insights into the evolution of fintech, regulatory responses, and potential future trends shaping the industry.
