This work is devoted to the feasibility of implementing capture and sequestration projects (CCS) in Russia, as well as to evaluation of the positive and negative aspects of implementation of CCS projects as a climate change mitigation technology. The study focuses on the current state of the problem of CO2 capture and disposal and considers possible implementation of CO2 sequestration projects in Russia. The negative and positive factors of CCS technology are also identified. The conclusion provides arguments for and against implementation of the CCS technology. This paper also considers the first successful on the territory of Russia commercial project in the field of sequestration, the Sleipner Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage Project. The paper focuses on this project due to its uniqueness, since the project implements monitoring of the storage of emissions. The behavior of CO2 underground is studied in detail. In addition, 5 more projects on the capture and storage of CO2 in the industrial environment are also considered in this paper, including the Petrobras Lula Oil Field CCS Project, the Gorgon Carbon Dioxide injection project, the Great Plains Synfuel plant, the Weyburn-Midale project and the Shute Creek Gas Processing Facility. However, all projects discussed above are either at the implementation or development stage, or have been implemented for only a few years, so the Boundary Dam Carbon Capture Project was taken for a detailed study and review of the success of the implementation of carbon dioxide sequestration projects. Its essence lies in the fact that this is the first power plant in the world that successfully uses CO2 sequestration. After reviewing all the projects, a conclusion is made about the advantages and disadvantages of the projects. A recommendation is made feasibility of such projects in Russia.
