Terminological Antonymy in the Vocabulary of the Russian and English Languages (By the Example of the Terminological System of Oil and Gas Field Geology)

The article is devoted to the identification and definition of opposite configurations of meanings in the Russian- and English-language terminological systems of oil and gas field geology. To solve the problem, the author ascertains the place of antonyms in the coordinate system of a particular area of knowledge, reveals their role in the structuring of its notions. The terms-antonyms are analyzed in synchrony in terms of comparative linguistics. The author considers the types and subtypes of the antonyms functioning in the terminological system under study, and carries out the comparative analysis of them. As a result of the research, it is concluded that the terms-antonyms of the Russian- and English-language terminological systems of oil and gas field geology have a developed system of interrelations, a similar structure and express relations of contrast.
