An inventory has been made of electrical systems in wind turbines. The first part concerns types of generators and includes variable reluctance, brushless double fed, superposing gearbox and hypocycloid options. The second part focuses on the transmission of the electric power to shore. Innovative designs are discussed and a preliminary economic evaluation is presented. Assessment criteria are chosen to rank these systems.
