Children s services are not specifically mentioned in the Government’s White Paper for the reform of the National Health Service, ‘Working for Patients'. Yet that is no reason for paediatric nurses to sit back and assume that all will be well with their speciality. The omission' provides, if anything, even greater cause for alarm, giving health authorities the liberty to tamper with children's services at will, unconstrained by firm guidance from Whitehall on what and what not to do.
