Introduction: Menstrual health and hygiene practice can prevent infection, reduce odor, and help you stay comfortable during your period, but poor menstrual hygiene may lead to itching or rashes in the perineal region, bad odor, and sometimes, major complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease and toxic shock syndrome. The major causes for the poor menstrual hygiene are discriminative social norms, cultural taboos, poverty, and lack of basic services such as toilets and sanitary products. Aim of the Study: The main aim of this study is to assess the knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene. Methodology: A quantitative research approach was adopted for this study. A pre-experimental one-group pretest and posttest research design was adopted for this study. The study was conducted at Government Higher Secondary School, Ariyur, Puducherry. There were 30 samples selected for this study by the purposive sampling technique. The statistical analyses were done by using the descriptive statistics. Results: The level of pre-test knowledge on Menstrual hygiene among school girls 10 (33.33%) had inadequate knowledge, 12 (40%) had moderately adequate knowledge, and 8 (26.66%) had adequate knowledge. The level of posttest knowledge on Menstrual hygiene among schoolgirls, 18 (60%), had adequate knowledge, 7 (23.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge, and 5 (16:66%) had inadequate knowledge. The present study shows that pre-test mean and standard deviation score was 10.93 and 3.6287. Moreover, posttest mean and standard deviation score were 14.53 and 3.093, the calculated “ t ” value of 5.1568, which was highly significant as the “ P ” <0.001. Hence, research hypothesis H1 was accepted. It clearly shows that the video-assisted teaching (VAT) was effective in improving the level of knowledge among most School girls. Conclusion: The finding of the study concludes that there was a significant difference between pretest and posttest knowledge score of schoolgirls who were effective in the VAT program regarding menstrual hygiene.
