The article examines the increasing role of strategic management in the development of the national economy and the role of the project-oriented approach as a tool of state regulation, which is most effectively used for the implementation of state programs. Various prerequisites for the development of the project approach, followed by the project-target approach in the management of the national economy, are also considered. The mechanism of project-target management is studied, its special significance is revealed in the conditions of significant changes in the overall structure of the global economy. The analysis of the implementation of state projects and programs is carried out to develop directions for improving the program-target approach in the field of state planning and programming. Various regulatory aspects of the implementation of this approach have been studied, conditions for its most effective implementation have been formulated.
