The development of clean energy technologies has gained prominence as a global strategy to deal with environmental issues and enhance energy security. Nigeria produces vast amounts of agricultural and animal wastes that are poorly utilized thus leading to environmental pollution and wastage of resources. Nonetheless, these wastes have a great potential of being converted into renewable energy. This technical paper discusses the concept of clean energy, its significance and the challenges involved in clean energy production in Nigeria. Special attention is placed on the efforts of the National Centre of Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM) in coming up with technologies that transforms agricultural and animal wastes into viable forms of energy like biogas and biomass briquettes. The analysis reveals that proper use of agricultural residues can play a significant role in the production of sustainable energy, waste management, and environmental conservation in Nigeria.
