Does sympathetic nervous system blockade increase collateral flow or prevent infarction following experimental coronary artery ligation?
Sympathetic blockade does not appear to improve collateral flow or prevent infarction in the early hours following experimental coronary artery ligation.
Collateral flow rates were measured for 6 hr after experimental myocardial infarction. Variations in the depth of anaesthesia, and procedures aimed at blocking the sympathetic system did not prevent infarction, and did not increase collateral flow.
