The blue economy represents the efficient use of aquatic and ocean resources effectively for economic growth, increasing the standard of living, and preserving ocean health. Blue economy focuses on balancing economic growth and environmental protection, as there is an increase in the global dependence on ocean resources for energy, trade, and food security. Research in this area has become more significant recently. Bibliometric analysis has been used in this study to comprehend the distribution of publications and the potential scope of research in the literature. The study used articles retrieved from the Scopus database using several inclusion and exclusion criteria. Australia, the USA, and Canada are the top contributors of blue economy research on sustainable blue economy, while Canada has the highest citation impact compared to the countries that have the largest number of contributions. Research found that blue economies, sustainable development, and the marine environment are core but underdeveloped topics of research. The co-occurrence and thematic analysis also underscore the multidisciplinary nature of blue economy research, calling for more emphasis on governance, economic development, and environmental sustainability. The thematic map also shows the level of development and relevance of the articles and provides an insight into areas of potential future research. In general, the results emphasize the increased international significance of blue economy research and call for increasingly integrated, multidisciplinary research directions to further sustainable development, enhance policy making, and mitigate environmental and economic issues in ocean resource utilization.
