We answer a question of Thomassen by proving that there is a unique strongly 2-connected digraph with no even dicycle. We show the significance of this digraph to the structure of strongly connected digraphs with no even dicycles. We also prove a conjecture of Lundy. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
