Measurements are presented of charge transfer to FEP polymer surfaces by conducting liquid contacts consisting of ethyl alcohol, water, and 0.01M aqueous solutions of HCl and NaOH. Contact angles between the liquid-vapor interfaces and the polymer surfaces were also measured. The results are interpreted in terms of a model in which charge transfer is controlled by the interaction of electrostatic and molecular forces on ions in the charge double layer at the polymer-liquid interface. Basic parameters of the double layer, including adsorbed charged density at the interface and Stern potential, have been derived from the charge-transfer measurements using this model.
