Data from a field study of barroom behavior indicate that most people do not stay very long or consume many drinks in a bar, that the number of sips per drink is a reliable measure of drinking rate and that beer is the preferred beverage. It is suggested that it is feasible to study drinking behavior in detail in a barroom setting.
