India possesses one of the largest youth populations in the world, offering immense potential for economic growth. However, a significant skill gap exists between academic education and industry requirements. This gap affects youth employability and national productivity. This paper examines how colleges can bridge the skill gap by adopting skill-based education, industry collaboration, digital integration, and entrepreneurship development. Using secondary data from government education reports, the study analyses higher education expansion and the challenges related to employability. The paper concludes that transforming colleges into skill-oriented institutions is essential for achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.
