Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been significantly transforming the way organisations make use of big data and forecast the future. This reveals new opportunities for incorporating the powerful insights obtained by the high predictive capability of AI into effective strategic, tactical and operational decisions. Business, Industry and Government (BIG) organisations have always faced challenges involving complex systems, uncertainty and multiple competing objectives. These are precisely the areas where OR has been developing impactful tools for many decades, and the availability of new AI tools and concepts provides researchers with new directions and opportunities to further strengthen them. At the recent sandpit event Optimal Decision-Making with AI, practitioners and researchers came together to explore how OR and AI can join forces to address these complex real-world problems.
