Orkney Housing Association Limited (OHAL) commissioned Orkney Research Centre for Archaeology (ORCA) to undertake a magnetometry survey at the site on Swarltand Road, Dounby, Orkney. Although no archaeological sites are known within the survey area, numerous prehistoric monuments such as barrows and burnt mounds are located in its vicinity. Also located to the north of the current survey area is the former Makerhouse farmstead. A fluxgate gradiometer survey covering 0.7ha was conducted on the 11th October 2014. The results of the survey have demonstrated a low potential for the presence of archaeological features within the development area. All anomalies recorded were associated with modern/geological feature.
