This resource is a 4DEE-aligned syllabus for an environmental biology course with a lab component. The course as designed is taught to non-major students at a 2-year college (i.e., community college) and would be suitable to any non-major audience. It emphasizes ecological literacy, scientific literacy, and information literacy and critical thinking to engage students in not just understanding but also addressing environmental issues and problems. In its interdisciplinary approach, environmental challenges are examined from scientific, ethical, economic, and sociological perspectives to enable students to understand the relevance of biology to contemporary issues in human society.
