Key Points The IMPOSTERS study found that recurring human characters in The Simpsons universe with periodontitis or tooth loss had a 23‐fold higher hazard of all‐cause mortality, a finding that is both statistically alarming and narratively convenient. ‘Bleeding Gums’ Murphy's death on The Simpsons predated Earth‐based reports linking periodontitis and mortality, further placing The Simpsons in both the ‘entertainment’ and ‘time traveller’ categories. The study demonstrates that convincing statistical narratives can be constructed from fragile data, particularly when the numbers are too beautiful to ignore. The manuscript highlights real limitations in perio‐systemic research, including self‐reported exposures, surrogate outcomes, residual confounding, overfitted models and the ritual sacrifice of nuance. The apparently persuasive statistical findings illustrate how overfitted models, wide confidence intervals, and selective interpretation can generate excitement despite substantial methodological fragility. While generalisability from the Simpsons universe is uncertain, the study argues that its methodological lessons are highly transferable to periodontal‐systemic disease research on Earth.
