Abstract Bioinformatics has emerged as a cornerstone of modern biological and medical research by integrating computational tools with biological data analysis. The exponential growth of high-throughput technologies such as next-generation sequencing (NGS) has led to massive biological datasets, necessitating advanced computational approaches. This review presents an in-depth analysis of current trends and developments in bioinformatics, including omics technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), structural bioinformatics, systems biology, and clinical applications. The role of machine learning, deep learning, and large language models in transforming bioinformatics is also discussed. Additionally, the challenges of big data management, data integration, computational complexity, and ethical considerations are examined. Finally, future directions such as precision medicine, multi-omics integration, and AI-driven bioinformatics are highlighted.
