This report presents the results of a National Register of Historic Places eligibility evaluation conducted on behalf of the United States Department of the Air Force at Eglin Air Force Base, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Walton Counties, Florida. This evaluation aids Eglin Air Force Base in managing the historic properties under its jurisdiction, as required by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended; United States Department of Defense Instruction 4715.16; and Department of the Air Force Manual 32 7003, Environmental Conservation. This evaluation covers Site 8OK04390, the LURCH 05 Wreck Site. Site 8OK04390 is a historic United States Air Force Fairchild C-123K Provider wreck site located near Duke Field, an auxiliary airfield within Eglin Air Force Base. As a result of this study, Site 8OK04390 does not meet the criteria for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. The integrity of Site 8OK04390 has been adversely affected primarily by contemporary crash recovery activity. Based on Argonne National Laboratory’s research for this project, documentation has adequately captured information about the wreck and its disposition, biographical information about the aircrew, and its significance within the historic context. Therefore, Argonne National Laboratory recommends Site 8OK04390 not eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
