The community of Porto Novo, located in Porto Alegre/RS, faces significant challenges related to the excessive accumulation of textile waste and socioeconomic vulnerability. This scenario is merely a fraction of global issues that reflect a capitalist society that encourages rampant consumption, leading to social degradation and increasing environmental impact, the current geological epoch known as Anthropocene. This article investigates how Social Innovation guided by Strategic Design can address these complex issues by proposing solutions that revalue textile waste and promote local development. The methodology includes a dynamic between action and reflection, aiming to identify practical opportunities for empowerment, dignity and autonomy for a group of local women. The results indicate that community participation is essential to generate significant social changes and that the integration between Strategic Design and Social Innovation transforms challenges into opportunities, contributing to a more sustainable and equitable future.
