The onboarding process for newly hired employees is a key HR management challenge in modern organizations. Effective onboarding allows new employees to more quickly integrate into the workflow, master their professional responsibilities, and successfully become part of the team. One of the most effective tools for accelerating onboarding is a mentoring system, which allows experienced employees to transfer experience and knowledge to newcomers. This article presents the results of a study examining the effectiveness of a competency-based mentor model in reducing the onboarding time for new employees at metallurgical plants. The article examines the mentor’s key competencies, their impact on the speed of new employee integration, and the legal aspects of mentoring in accordance with changes in labor legislation. The analysis demonstrates a statistically significant relationship between the level of mentor competency development and the duration of the onboarding period.
