Transcendental deduction has appeared at once indispensable and impossible: indispensable because philosophy cannot avoid asking what must hold for experience, judgment, explanation, or rational practice to be possible at all, impossible because any claim to ultimate justification seems threatened by circularity, skepticism, and the impossibility of full self-certification from within. What has usually been missing is not ambition but discrimination. The crucial distinction is between minimal reconstruction and constitutive initiality. In its weak form, transcendental deduction identifies the least hidden structure required to reconstruct a public phenomenon relative to a target family of invariants; in its strong form, it requires an initial admissible world or structure from which all successful realizations receive their form. The stronger claim depends on ontology. Where local structure and its full closure determine a unique global realization up to the relevant equivalence, clean inherited initiality becomes available, and transcendental argument can acquire genuinely constitutive force. Where local structure underdetermines global realization, including the modern physical world insofar as its globally individuating structures are ontologically serious, inherited initiality fails, and strong force, if available at all, must be categorically constructed rather than simply inherited. The result is a more exact reconstruction of transcendental deduction and a diagnostic framework that distinguishes weak reconstructive success, strong success by inheritance, strong success by construction, and obstruction.
