High temperature steady-state experiment for computational radiative heat transfer validation using COMSOL and ANSYS

A high temperature steady-state experiment was used to generate temperature levels up to 1300 K. This temperature level provides sufficient thermal energy for radiative heat transfer studies. Series of experiments were conducted with varying radiative heat transfer emissivity environments. These experiments were performed using OUTSET heated by 200 W of direct-current power and an internal pressure below 1.3 Pa. The experimental results were used to compare leading thermal modeling software packages and various solution methods. The experiment was compared against COMSOL and ANSYS Mechanical. Within COMSOL the radiation view factors were calculated using the hemi-cube and the Ray Shooting solution methods. These were also compared against ANSYS, which utilized the hemi-cube view factor solution method.
