The authors of the article adhere to a broad approach to humanitarian diplomacy, which implies not only assistance in crisis and conflict situations, but also interaction in the fields of culture, art, science, education, tourism and sports. As a result of the study, the main forms of humanitarian cooperation are identified and analyzed. Scientific research, education, projectsin the field of culture and art appear to be the most productive areas of cooperation. It is established that the cultural and civilizational differences of the BRICS countries create advantages for intercivilizational dialogue, mutual knowledge and cooperation in the humanitarian sphere. The problematic areas of the formation of common values that could become vehicles of BRICS soft power in the international arena are identified. It is proven that not all projects in the humanitarian sphere have managed to move on to practical implementation. Coordination among countries remains underdeveloped and governance structures are either missing or too weak. It is concluded that for Russia, the development of intercivilizational dialogue within the framework of BRICS is a promising area of humanitarian diplomacy. * The study was carried out with the financial support of the Russian Foundation for BasicResearch within the framework ofthe scientific project No. 20-014-00033A«The concept of polymodal humanitarian diplomacy: implementation, tools and civilizational models».
