Evidence has been presented which demonstrates that protein placed in proximal tubular fluid in a concentration similar to that of serum exerts little influence on tubular reabsorption in the normal rat. The results are consistent with the thesis that active sodium transport and its concomitant reabsorption of water are the main forces in proximal tubular reabsorption.
