Skill development is a key factor in achieving sustainable economic growth and social progress. With one of the largest youth populations in the world, India has a significant opportunity to transform its demographic advantage into a productive workforce through effective skill development initiatives. The development of technical, vocational, and soft skills is essential for improving employability, promoting entrepreneurship, and meeting the evolving demands of modern industries. This study focuses on the importance of skill development in the context of India’s vision of becoming a developed nation. It examines the major challenges faced in the skill development ecosystem, including gaps in training infrastructure, mismatch between industry requirements and available skills, limited awareness among youth, and inadequate access to quality training programs. The study also highlights key government initiatives such as the Skill India Mission, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), and other training programs designed to enhance the skill capabilities of the workforce. The research aims to analyze both the problems and the programs related to skill development in India and to evaluate how these initiatives contribute to economic growth and employment generation. Strengthening skill development systems, improving collaboration between government, industry, and educational institutions, and expanding access to quality training are essential steps toward achieving the goal of a developed India
