High Resolution Image Download MS PowerPoint Slide Electrochemiluminescence (ECL), a light-emitting phenomenon triggered by electrochemical reactions, has attracted significant attention for its high sensitivity, low background, and excellent spatiotemporal control. A comprehensive understanding of the reaction mechanism is essential for enhancing the analytical performance and expanding the applications of ECL. The electrode-surface-confined emission of ECL emphasizes the importance of precisely measuring and characterizing the reaction layer, as this provides valuable insights into the reaction mechanism. In this Review, recent advancements in the measurement and regulation of the ECL reaction layer are summarized. We highlight innovative applications that have emerged from the strategic manipulation of the reaction layer. Finally, the current challenges and future directions for achieving precise control of the reaction layer are discussed.
