The wellness movement is but one recent change affected by groups of consumers regarding their health care. The concept has not only precipitated academic inquiry, but is clearly becoming a force in the health care field. This paper examines two new concepts, health consiousness and scientific health orientation as they relate to attitudes and behaviors that are indicative of alternative health care paradigms and particularly the wellness concept. Both concepts are found to have predictive ability, thus providing some preliminary evidence on what may be determinants of wellness participation.
