Youth mental health reform and early intervention: encouraging early signs

The authors argue for the strengthening of child and adolescent psychiatry through the creation of a subspecialty of youth mental health which also extends to emerging adults. They cites a study which concluded that mental and substance use disorders are the major health issue confronting youth. They believe that sweeping demographic changes have altered the characteristics of youth development.
