The Alcohologist's Addiction; Some Implications of Having Lost Control over the Disease Concept of Alcoholism

Jellinek's original definition of the disease concept of alcoholism was restricted to the loss-of-control and inability-to-abstain aspects of excessive drinking. He later adopted a more wide-ranging definition of alcoholism; the implications of this for the alcoholic, the medical profession and the wider society are discussed.
