Infrared spectra in the region of the amide I' band have been determined for a number of proteins in D2O solution. Comparison of the observed band positions with structural analyses based on optical rotatory dispersion and circular dichroism data, as well as with crystallographically determined structures, indicates that this technique may be useful in conformational studies of proteins in solution.
