Abstract The deoxyribonucleic acid exonuclease induced by bacteriophage λ has been obtained in crystalline and physically homogeneous form. The purified preparation is free of detectable contamination by the endonuclease I, DNA polymerase, DNA phosphatase-exonuclease, alkaline phosphatase, 5'-nucleotidase, and ribonuclease activities known to be present in Escherichia coli; it may contain a trace (0.01%) of exonuclease I.
