Classification of high resolution radar echoes is carried out using the generalized compound probability density function (GC-pdf). The system noise, usually referred to as thermal noise, is incorporated in the model. The classification procedure comprises the estimation of the parameters of the GC-pdf. The classification vector is properly formed to indicate special cases of the GC-pdf and to choose existing CFAR detectors.
