Four strategies for theory development are examined after a discussion of conditions making for creativity. They are: axiomatic theory, borrowed theory, grounded theory and conceptual frameworks. Borrowed theory and hypotheses stemming from seminal concepts appear particularly useful. Family scholars are urged to become familiar with developments in other areas and encourage specialists in other areas to attend their meetings.
