COMPLETE atrioventricular block with slow ventricular rates is not infrequently associated with intractable congestive heart failure. In many cases the treatment of the heart failure is of little efficacy. Moreover, attempts to increase the ventricular rate by sympathomimetic agents and other drugs are often unsuccessful in these patients. The object of this presentation is to report the successful treatment of intractable heart failure by increasing the slow heart rate with the use of an artificial pacemaker.
