The authors propose that job satisfaction might be assessed through the measurement of "action tendencies" and report the development of an action tendency job satisfaction instrument. A series of five studies was conducted with workers in a wide range of occupations serving as respondents. The developmental studies indicate that the resulting instrument possesses acceptable reliability, a coherent factor structure, and significant convergent and discriminant validity when contrasted with a traditional measure of job satisfaction.
