Does Tissue Doppler echocardiography detect impaired cardiac function independently of conventional echocardiography in persons with hypertension, diabetes, or ischaemic heart disease?
Persons in the general population with hypertension, diabetes, or ischaemic heart disease (from the Copenhagen City Heart Study)
Tissue Doppler echocardiography (TDI)
Conventional echocardiography
Impaired cardiac functionsurrogate
Tissue Doppler imaging can detect subclinical cardiac dysfunction in patients with cardiovascular risk factors even when conventional echocardiography is normal.
In the general population, persons with hypertension, diabetes, or IHD have impaired cardiac function by TDI independently of the result of conventional echocardiography.
