A Retrospective Survey of 102 Cases of Shoulder Pain

A retrospective survey of 102 patients presenting with shoulder pain has been carried out Of these, 83 fell into the diagnostic group of capsulitis, frozen shoulder, or rotator cuff syndrome. The female: male ratio was approximately 2: 1. A high incidence of obesity (50%), non-steroid-induced diabetes (3.6%), and recent carcinoma (3.6%) was noted. Comparison of various forms of therapy suggests that physiotherapy may reduce the time taken for improvement to occur by nearly a fortnight. Whatever the treatment, and regardless of the duration of symptoms, the average time taken for improvement to be apparent following the initiation of therapy is of the order of two and a half months.
