IT has been known for over 150 years that hearing loss results from excessive stimulation of the inner ear and the first report of deafness due to blast trauma appeared just over 100 years ago (Green, 1872). There has been a tendency in most papers on acoustic trauma to group into one category all cases of stimulation deafness, regardless of the aetiology. In 1958, the IVth Congress of the International Audiological Society accepted a classification proposed by
Kerr et al. (Sat,) studied this question.
