Expressions based on those of some earlier workers are developed to describe the effect of fibre parameters on the crimp curvature of bicomponent fibres of arbitrary cross-section and component distributions. A new equation is presented that provides a very simple means of estimating and comparing the crimping potential of these fibres. The limitations of the analysis are discussed. The equation is applied to several idealized fibre cross-sections, similar to those of real bicomponent fibres.
