Infrared atmospheric transmission from 0.5 μ to 15 μ is shown as measured over three horizontal paths of 1000 ft, 3.4 statute mi, and 10.1 statute mi. The intense source, a 60-in. carbon arc searchlight, permits a resolution throughout of about 10 wave numbers. Work is continuing in an effort to obtain data taken under a wide range of atmospheric and meteorological conditions. The data presented here represent an average relatively clear winter day, a moderately dense fog and a snowstorm.
