Diodelike Current–Voltage Curves for a Single Molecule–Tunneling Spectroscopy with Submolecular Resolution of an Alkylated, peri‐Condensed Hexabenzocoronene

The electronic properties of molecules can in some cases be elucidated by scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. The current–voltage characteristics through the aromatic core of a benzocoronene molecule (1), localized with submolecular resolution, are the same those of a diode, and are caused by the properties of a single molecule in contact with two electrodes.
