A year‐around record of the concentration of ammonia‐nitrogen occurring in the Sargasso Sea off Bermuda is given. It is shown that ammonia‐nitrogen is present in significantly greater quantities than nitrate‐nitrogen down to 100 m. In addition it is postulated that a large fraction of naturally occurring ammonia is contributed to surface waters by rainfall.
